Marketing in the news: Zara
I decided to write about Zara, one of the largest apparel retailers in the world, and the company's marketing strategies. Although I am a huge fan of Zara due to the speciality of design and quality, I have not seen as many advertisements as other apparel retailers on online platforms or social media, as well as why I am obsessed with this brand. I also realized Zara has many loyal customers who always stop by the store every time they go shopping, and there are many customers who visit the store on purposely. At this time, I wondered how Zara succeeded in attracting customers.
Zara gives a scarcity of items being out of stock soon to their customers by producing limited amounts of products. It is really impressive that they produce limited amount of items even though they could make more profits by producing popular lines, and I think this makes people pay more attention to the brand. Zara comes up with new patterns throughout the year which attracts customers to visit the stores often. At this point, I found myself that I've been always accessing their website to check new patterns almost bi-weekly. Also, their customer service has a great job done as well. They actually reflects their customers feedback quickly to develop their products and this system has helped them in building brand loyalty. In terms of the stores' location, we can also find that the stores are located in the center of cities, which provides a great accessibility to their customers. To sum up all these special characters that Zara has, I would describe this brand as a company being remarkable and getting closer to their customers.
I think they have succeed in being remarkable and taking risks by providing a limited number of items and bringing new patterns throughout the year. These strategies are really attractive to their customers not only to form loyal relationship with customers, but also to pay more attention to their products and brand themselves. However, I feel that their mobile app is too complex and hard to choose a clothes for customers, because I'm always lost and feel less attractive when I want to buy the products through their app. If I were the brand manager, I would organize the layout with more categories under the menu tab, which would help them in increasing their online sales. Also, some products have fewer pictures than others, so it's hard to choose when I actually want to buy them. So, I am more of an online shopper but always had to go to the stores in person.
By analysing Zara's marketing strategies, I've learned that taking risks and being remarkable are clearly helpful in approaching customers and stronger in building loyal relationships with customers. Also, as someone who wants to work in the marketing field of apparel retailer, this activity really helps me broaden my thoughts on marketing concept. So far, Zara has had great success in promoting the brand with minimal advertising and cultivating their target customers, and I would love to improve myself so that I can become a more competitive marketer in my future by analyzing other apparel companies.
